Mountain Justice Tabling Guidelines
- Please make sure your tabling event is on the MJ calendar at mountainjustice.org/calendar. If the event is not already there, contact Dave Cooper (davecooper928(AT)yahoo(DOT)com) to have your event added.
- Review the Mountain Justice mission statement, goals and tactics. Try to have a copy of these at the table.
- Have talking points that you can discuss with folks who come to the table, including relevant movement news and MJ-related projects that people can plug into or support. Have a list of these at the table if possible.
- Be proactive and talk to people. Don't just wait for people to come up to you or sit behind the table the whole time. Make a sincere effort to approach people and engage them. One thing you can talk to anyone about is how this issue is relevant to everyone's lives. We all use electricity, drink water and breathe air.
- Have an e-mail list so that people can sign up for the Mountain Justice info list. Send e-mails gathered to Dave Cooper (davecooper928(AT)yahoo(DOT)com)
- Arrive for your shift at least a few minutes early so you have time to talk to prior tablers about any relevant information. If you are opening or setting up the table, arrive early enough to get everything ready to go before the shift begins. If you are tabling at a music festival or other large event, arrive early enough to have a meeting with other tablers before the event begins if possible.
- Keep the tabling area clean of trash. Keep the table organized and not cluttered with excessive information.
- Keep a ledger of how much money is brought in at the table each day or each shift.
- Have at least two people keeping track of the tabling money.
- If any money brought in at the table is used to pay for or reimburse for things like table supplies and gas, log it in the ledger and send receipts to:
Mountain Justice
PO Box 86
Naoma, WV 25140
This should not exceed $200 per event unless previously agreed upon at a MJ monthly meeting or on the MJ organizer list serve.
- Mountain Justice needs your best efforts to recruit for training camps and field work. Although you are volunteering, please remember that you are representing the movement to end mountain top removal and many of our sister organizations and allies. Thus, any usage of illegal drugs or alcohol (even at festivals) while tabling for Mountain Justice may create a false representation of the work we are doing and damage the credibility of our allies and other MJ organizers and activists. Out of respect, refrain from any usage or reference to illegal drugs and alcohol while representing MJ. This also includes prior to your shift.
- Please refrain from sleeping or napping during your shift. You never know when the next person may walk up- and they may be just the person we need to help end MTR.
If this policy is violated, you may be banned from future tabling events with Mountain Justice.
